Tom Vu: Viet Vo Dao Orlando

Tom Vu operates Viet Vo Dao Orlando, a Vietnamese martial-arts studio. Traditional Vietnamese martial arts is a combination of “hard” and “soft” styles (Karate, for example, is “hard” while Judo is “soft”). Vo Dao combines both aspects and emphasizes strength (strong bodies and defense against bodily illness), practical techniques (for self-defense) and a philosophy of discipline and good citizenship.

The practice can arguably be traced back several thousand years and involves a quyen or sequence of techniques in a specific order. Tom started practicing Vo Dao at the age of fifteen and began teaching at seventeen. Students are from a variety of backgrounds. The group offers demonstrations and performs at approximately ten festivals a year in Florida from Orlando to Jacksonville, including the Vietnamese New Year Festival.Viet Vo Dao Orlando
