The Hannibal Square
Heritage Center |

CHA is pleased to announce its partnership with the soon to be completed Hannibal Square Heritage Center in Winter Park. Managed by Crealdé School of Art and the Winter Park Community Center, this new site will exhibit and celebrate the cultural contributions that west Winter Park's historically African-American community has made to the city. The center will house photographs and other historical materials as well as provide a venue for community arts projects.

Florida Folklife Program |

The UCF Cultural Heritage Alliance was founded with the help of the Florida Folklife Program (FFP) in 2002. Part of the Department of State, the FFP seeks to document, preserve and present Florida’s traditional culture through folklife research, heritage awards, an apprenticeship program and festival and educational outreach.

International House of Blues Foundation |

The International House of Blues Foundation (IHOBF) Orlando seeks to encourage appreciation of African-American culture and to promote cultural tolerance through performances and educational programs about the blues. Programs such as the Blues Schoolhouse facilitate student artistic understanding and creativity. Recently, CHA and IHOBF held a storytelling workshop using recycled materials. The UCF Cultural Heritage Alliance and the IHOBF share a commitment to cultural diversity and plan to collaborate on future projects together.

Florida Folklore Society |

The Florida Folklore Society (FFS) is a state-wide association for the study and appreciation of Florida’s folklife. Every year the Society hosts an annual convention at which folklife scholars present their research. The UCF College of Arts and Sciences has made it possible for the Cultural Heritage Alliance to host the Society for a two-year period.

The Orange County Regional History Center (OCRHC) preserves and presents Central Florida's unique history through exhibits, education and special events and programs. The UCF Cultural Heritage Alliance and the OCRHC share a desire to preserve a record of the people and practices that have shaped life in the region.

The City of Orlando Families, Parks and Recreation Department (FPR) provides recreation and other community-based activities for Orlando's residents by operating a number of parks in the area. The UCF Cultural Heritage Alliance and the FPR Department plan to collaborate on future projects by hosting folklife workshops at parks operated by the City of Orlando.

Black Veterans Association: Veterans History Project |

The Black Veterans Association, led jointly by Troy Demps and Alzo Reddick, is dedicated to preserving a record of African-American contributions to American history by documenting veterans’ oral histories. A number of interviews have been completed so far and more are planned for the future. The Black Veterans Association is an official partner of the national Veterans History Project, mandated by Congress to record the experiences of those who served our country.

The Moore Center |

The East Mims Oral History Project is an effort to create a lasting record of the history of east Mims, an historically African-American section of north Brevard county in Central Florida. Community elders are sharing their memories and knowledge of the region’s citrus, palmetto and turpentine industries as well as the contributions of local churches and Civil Rights leaders like the late Harry T. Moore. |
