2004 House of Blues Folk Art Festival

The IHOBF internship was a great experience which gave me the opportunity to meet great people and enrich my life with a better understanding of Folk Art and of the Blues. The foundation is a fine staple of integrity and social awareness, and it was a pleasure to dedicate my time and efforts to their cause.

My internship at the International House of Blues Foundation required me to work on a number of tasks. I was pretty excited about the House of Blues Folk Art Festival. I wanted to see how all the little things Ryan and I had been doing would become part of the big picture. It was somewhat hectic when I got there the first morning; no one really knew what we should be doing. One of the staff members offered a little bit of guidance and I settled in at the Silent Auction table. The Silent auction was slow going on Friday, but the Inspiration Station where children made art was fun! I liked helping the kids and watching them create. Friday was a very long day though. I got to walk around and see some booths, that was fun. Saturday was a much better day! The Inspiration Station was very exciting with featured artists there to help. One artist had an amazing project in which the children painted suitcases to be donated to foster children. I got involved in that project and helped paint a suitcase with Adam, another intern. Seeing the kids get involved in that project was rewarding. I had the opportunity to talk to a lot of artists that day. Ryan and I walked around to booths and just started conversations. To meet some of the artists that I had researched was very interesting. Friday and Saturday were very long days that I had worked all semester to get to enjoy and I did! Being a hands on participant was fun.
